Brief 1 Research & Development – Research and Pitch

Aims

To explore and evaluate your ideas. This module aims to develop your creative design skills through a personalised approach to formal animation and film making techniques and processes.

Introduction

The module will require you to start to develop and demonstrate your ability for independent study / research and specialist understanding of animated film production techniques. The pitch is one of the most important stages in development. It’s an opportunity to outline your ideas to an investor. It is from this point that your ideas are understood clearly and to the point.

Project

This brief is split into three categories. Practical Project, TV Series and Research Blog. You have a choice of the type of practical project you may wish to get into.

1. 3 Minute Film

2. Narrative for Games.

3. Interactive story book for OS or Android.

4. Graphic novel with an element of animation.

Using PowerPoint, you are given up to 10 minutes in total to present 3 different ideas for your practical project and 3 different Ideas for an animated TV Series.

These are just ideas at this stage and must include the following:

1. 200 word paragraph explaining each idea.

2. Rough character designs

3. Reference board (containing research about the idea)

In addition you are to start a new blog that forms the basis of all your research throughout the semester. This blog must contain all references and research found from the above starting date with reflection and evaluation of your development. Remember your ideas will develop during semester 1 and up the final hand in all the research and documentation produced should reflect your chosen practise.

In addition to the tutorials I have listed for you below that you must follow, you must also find at least 3 different more resources of technical research and tutorials discussing ways to improve your skills and underpins your area of interest. Use Lynda.com to help you find resources. You must briefly describe what was demonstrated and reflect on what you learnt from it.
